This Distributed Control Technology, introduced in the early 1980's is still available today. There is an immense installed base of this equipment around the world and although it is being supplanted by newer technology, it has not been abandoned by Rockwell Automation / Reliance Electric.
There are software upgrades available (Windows 2000 and NT), new and rebuilt parts plus several new communications capabilities. It is not necessary to replace the Automax due to obsolescence or spare parts availability. Existing systems can be maintained, improvements can be installed (including entire new sections), and if necessary, a logical migration path developed to move into the new Rockwell Automation Control-Logix technology without expensive wholesale replacement of the Automax with the associated down time.
Columbia Automation Systems has over 100 man years of experience with the Automax product. In 2002 we have upgraded and/or installed over 20 sections of Automax/DPS drives.
